Borrowed Player Policy
This rule was originally enacted in the Pony Division (13-14 year olds) to deal with the many players that participate in both Rec. Ball and School Ball. Rather than cancel a game, the Manager may use players from other teams to fill out his rooster.
The Manager of each team is a representative of GNBL and will do his/her best to fulfill their commitment to play their scheduled games. The Shetland and Pinto Divisions may not benefit from this rule as much as the Pony, Bronco and Mustang Divisions. The following guidelines will be used throughout the Great Neck Baseball League.
- The Manager will have to know in advance how many players will not be at his next game. At this time he may call players from other teams. It is recommended that you recruit players from teams you are not playing that day. You should only use players from the opposing team as a last resort.
- Borrowed players will play in the outfield and bat last in your lineup.
- Borrowed players can not pitch or catch for your team. Every team has a player or two who would like to pitch, but never gets a chance. Now would be a good time to make that happen.
- You can only use players in your division. They must be registered with the Great Neck Baseball League and in the proper age group. Any player who meets these requirements is a legal player.
- The Pony Division (13-14 yr. olds) can play the entire game with 8 players. In Bronco (11-12 yr. olds) can start with 8 but must have 9 players by the start of the 7th inning or the game is a forfeit. In both Pony and Bronco the 9th position is an automatic out. Mustang (9-10 yr. olds) must have at least 9 to start and 9 to finish.
- UP to 2 borrowed players are allowed during the regular season and NONE during the playoffs.
